Mélisande is one of the few strong female forces on the Québécois traditional music scene. She built her career releasing four albums in the électrotrad style (an original blend of traditional songs and electronic music) before revisiting her repertoire with an acoustic quintet on the album Rembobine in 2024. Surrounded by her long time accomplice Alexandre de Grosbois-Garand (former Genticorum member – wooden flute, bass) and other renowned Quebec musicians, they create a high-energy traditional Québécois sound with strong vocal harmonies. Mélisande’s songs were unearthed during repertoire research in folklorist collections in the US and Canada, excavations in archive centers, and by collecting traditional songs from elders in person along the Richelieu River in QC. Mélisande (lead vocal, jaw harp, mandolin) cleverly enlivens the songs of her ancestors in a way that invites listeners today to participate in something old made new again. This particular show at Club Passim will be an immersive combination of both her most recent acoustic trad songs and her électrotrad repertoire.
