Since entering the vibrant music scene in her hometown of St. John’s in 2012, multi- instrumentalist and songwriter Kat McLevey has become one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most prestigious singer/songwriters. McLevey’s latest release, Evergrown, has launched her critical acclaim beyond the province, collecting top-5 chart placements on campus and community radio stations across the country, as well as spins on nationally broadcasted radio shows such as CBC’s Radio 2 Morning Show, Deep Roots, Q the Music, and The Strombo Show.

The very next day after releasing Evergrown to a sold out audience at the Resource Centre for the Arts LSPU Hall, McLevey moved to Boston, MA, to pursue her Bachelor of Music at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music. There she studies Jazz Composition with a minor in Recording and Production for Musicians. While obviously different from her background as a singer/songwriter, McLevey has found unity in her musical identity through her study of Jazz Composition and does not see these two contrasting worlds as separate identities. Instead, McLevey is eagerly diving in to the technical, harmonic, and historical tradition of Jazz to become a better expresser of the art form she is most passionate about – music.
