Peter Hoffman & Emily Jones
For over 50 years, Peter Hoffman has been at the center of the Boston music scene, as a songwriter, guitarist, vocalist, and business owner. He has helped define and bring to life the sounds of many fellow singer-songwriters including Tom Rush, Robin Lane, Chuck McDermott, Adam Sherman, and Willie Nile. A Boston Globe “Best of Boston” winner, he co-founded and co-led the bands Heidi and the Secret Admirers, The Band That Time Forgot, and the Splendaids, and was the guitarist for the vas deferens. For many years, he was the owner of Mooradian Cover Company, supplying thousands of musicians with padded covers, cases and gig bags for their instruments. After retiring from the company, he returned to his songwriting and performing roots, and in 2025, issued his EP of original compositions with The Tony Peters Project. Most recently, he is thrilled to partner with his daughter, Emily Jones, in founding the band Better Great Than Never.
With a voice that blends sultry R&B grit with pure soul, Emily Jones has been a force in the Boston music scene since 2010. After honing her craft at The Cantab Lounge’s R&B jams, she rose to prominence fronting the funk-soul outfit The Dank Tops—headlining venues like The Liberty Hotel and opening for Murali Coryell at the iconic Johnny D’s. Her sound, influenced by greats like Carole King and D’Angelo, is raw, emotive, and unmistakable. Today, she brings that ‘all-in’ energy to the stage as the frontwoman for Mrs. Jones and a Thing Goin’ On. She also maintains a deep musical connection to her roots, performing as a vocalist in a separate project showcasing the original music of her father, the legendary Peter Hoffman.
