Unlocking the Guitar Neck: Level 2
- School of Music workshop
A continuation of Unlocking the Guitar Neck: Level 1.
Sick of being constrained to open chords and bar chords? Looking for some small conceptual prompts to kick-start your playing to the next level?
Through the use of a few scales and chord positions, this workshop aims to open up the whole guitar neck for a lifetime of musical exploration and wonder. Diagrams, worksheets and select repertoire will be given.
The goal of this workshop is to enhance your musical tool box. The information transmitted will be conceptual in that it can be applied to all music/styles.
Students will be able to walk away with a solid practice routine regardless of style and song-taste tailored to their own time-constraints. This workshop functions for the dabbler (10-15 minutes of playing time a day) or the obsessor (1-8 hours of playing a day).
Both single-note playing (melodies) and chords will be discussed.
Pre-Requisites: Knowledge of bar chords, know what a I, IV and V chord are. (Know the answer to: If we’re in the key of D, what’s the I, IV and V?) Must be able to sing a major scale or identify it by ear (do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti), the names of the strings of the guitar (Lowest to highest: E A D G B E), open chords (E, A, D, G, C, F).
