Introduction to the Harmonica

  • Folk
  • Rock
  • School of Music class

Have you ever wanted to add another instrument to your repertoire but didn’t want to have to carry yet one more thing around? Well, have we got the instrument for you! Not only is a harmonica cheap, and fun to play, but it easily fits in your pocket and can go anywhere with you. This class will start at the very beginning with basic techniques and move through a varitey of styles, including straight harp and cross harp. We will explore the music of players like  Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young, and then move in to the blues styles of Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, and Sonny Terry.

No experience necessary, all levels are welcome. Students will need to provide a harmonica in the key of C. If you have questions about purchasing a harmonica, or the class, you can email the instructor at: lloydthayer@mac.com

This class will be held from 6:30-7:45pm on Thursdays: Jan. 9, 16, 23, 30, Feb. 6, 13.

Please note: The Passim School of Music is located at 26 Church St. Cambridge, MA. Classrooms are located on the third floor and, unfortunately, we do not have an elevator.
