  • Acoustic
  • School of Music workshop

Get hands-on experience running sound at Club Passim!  This workshop will give students the opportunity to soundcheck a band and learn about the equipment necessary to mix a live show.  Topics covered will include setting up a PA, a tour of the soundboard, names and uses of common sound equipment, mic selection, and how to manage a soundcheck as the engineer.  Then comes the fun part – together we will soundcheck an act on stage!

This workshop is geared towards students who want practical, hands-on learning about the basics of setting up a live show, like a performer who wants to understand the other side of soundcheck or a band who might suddenly have to run their own sound.  If you’ve never touched a soundboard before or don’t understand how compression works, don’t fear!  We’ll cover the basics without getting lost in the weeds.

This workshop runs from 12pm-3pm and will be held Saturday, October 1st at the Club Passim venue, located at 47 Palmer St. Cambridge, MA.

Please note: Pre-sales are highly encouraged! Online Sales end 2 hours before the workshop begins, tickets can be purchased at the door until the workshop begins. 3 students are required for this workshop to meet. If a workshop is cancelled due to low enrollment, you will be notified and receive a full refund.

Abby Altman

Abby started working at Passim shortly after moving to the Boston area eight years ago.  She started in the box office of the club and soon became a performance manager.  As the manager for Club Passim, she now supervises and trains the box office staff, manages many shows in the club, coordinates the campfire. and Down Home Up Here festivals, and is an extra pair of hands wherever they’re needed.  She also administers the Iguana Music Fund and Passim Emergency Artist Relief (PEAR) Fund.

Abby studied English Literature at Saint Mary’s College and German Language at the University of Notre Dame, which included one year at the University of Innsbruck, Austria.  She has played violin for several years, though she much prefers being at the sound board to being on the stage.  As far as she knows, she’s the second person ever to have a Passim tattoo.
