Welcome to third annual Deadstring Trad Guitar Immersion Day!

Attention Guitarists: Join Flynn Cohen and Matt Heaton for a full day of guitar immersion on beautiful Cambridge, Massachusetts. Students will choose from 10 different class options and two different guitar tunings — Dropped D & DADGAD — as well as being treated to a house concert from the hosts. The goal of this experience is to move you closer to a complete understanding of the accompaniment of traditional fiddle music through immersion in specific fingerboard knowledge, as well as drills and exercises to broaden the scope of your acoustic guitar playing.

We will learn a Bothy Band chord progression for a tune that modulates between B minor and D major; and we will also explore the textural possibilities of song accompaniment with DADGAD, including fingerstyle techniques.

Flatpicking Irish Trad Music:
We will discuss pick gauge, right-hand technique, left-hand efficiency, tone, and ornamentation, and learn some exercises to develop the necessary skills to flatpick Irish trad (as well as other types of fiddle tunes) on the acoustic guitar.

PLEASE NOTE: The Instructor Concert will take place at the Passim School of Music and will be for workshop participants only.

The Passim School of Music is located at 26 Church St. Cambridge, MA. The classrooms are held on the third floor of the building and, unfortunately, we do not have an elevator.
