Blues Ensemble Prep
- School of Music class
*THIS IS AN ONLINE CLASS*
This class will be a preparatory class for the original ‘face to face’ Blues Ensemble
class and give students a chance to work on their instruments in both a one on one and group setting. We will talk about what it really means to ‘woodshed’ and immerse ourselves deeply in this music. We will spend time studying different songs, forms, techniques and styles and explore different styles Chicago blues, Delta blues, Texas blues, Country blues, Jug Band, one string diddely bow and whatever else we can come up with. We will cover basic blues progressions, chords, rhythms, scales and more in a way that is both educational and fun.
We will listen to and learn from some of the men and women who invented this uniquely American form of folk music, many of whom played right down stairs at the historic Club 47(Club Passim).
As others have noted, during this strange and curious time, it’s not ideal, but it’s what we have for the moment we are in, and it’s a way for us to stay connected to the music and eachother.
This class will be held from 8:00-9:15pm ET on Thursdays, Jan. 7, 14, 28, Feb. 4, 11, 18
