*THIS IS AN ONLINE CLASS*
Become a better fiddler and get ready to have fun! This class will cover the fundamentals of traditional old-time fiddling that bring this music to life and produces its irresistible groove. Techniques will include the use of characteristic bowing licks, drone strings, alternate tunings, simple variations and ornamentations. These techniques, basic ear training, tone, timing and style will be taught in the context of specific tunes.
Participants should be able to play at a reasonable speed in one or more traditional styles. Experience with old-time style is not required. Recording device will be helpful.
If there’s interest, we can also spend a session or two learning some Cajun tunes. We’ll start with the skeleton or vocal line of the tune and then add in simple ornaments and fills as well as the basics of seconding (chordal back-up) to give it that quintessential Cajun flavor.
