Joy Askew arrived in New York City from the North of England in the early 1980’s and made a splash on the music scene playing with many artists including Joe Jackson, Laurie Anderson, Peter Gabriel, Rodney Crowell and New York’s own Willie Nile. She also appeared in Laurie Anderson’s concert film “Home of The Brave” In the late 90’s her first solo album “Tender City” was released and since then she has released 7 more.

Askew has opened live for David Byrne, John Prine and David Bowie among others, played and sung on albums by James Maddock and Sufjan Stevens and more, collaborated with The Brighouse & Rastrick
Brass Band in England, has songs published by Quincy Jones and others and is now currently working on songs for a new album with a new band.

She lives in Brooklyn and SW France.
