Rosin up your bow and prepare to dig into the fundamentals of bluegrass fiddle. We’ll start with a brief overview of stylings including sound production, bowings, and feel. By listening to iconic fiddlers such as Vassar Clements and Bobby Hicks, we’ll learn certain protocol for filling behind vocals, and taking solos using bluegrass vocabulary and licks. We’ll learn a bluegrass fiddle tune by ear as well as common licks and phrases to utilize during solos. Lastly, we’ll cover some practice techniques to improve bluegrass groove and tone.

This workshop is part of the Down Home Up Here Festival.

Workshops fees are seperate from your festival ticket.

Please note: The Passim School of Music is located at 26 Church St. Cambridge, MA. Classrooms are located on the third floor and, unfortunately, we do not have an elevator.
