Catie Curtis

The vivid songwriting of Catie Curtis combines insightful lyrics with addictive melodies and energy. Catie’s studio work, engaging live shows and impressive touring career in the US and Europe earn rave reviews and wide recognition.

Her songs have been featured on Dawson’s Creek, Felicity, Alias, Chicago Hope, and Grey’s Anatomy, as well as in several independent films. She’s toured with Dar Williams, Mary Chapin Carpenter and as part of Lilith Fair. Catie was named grand prize winner of the International Songwriting Competition, for her song “People Look Around”, co-written with Mark Erelli, from a field of 15,000 entries from 82 countries. The song appeared on Long Night Moon (©2006, Compass Records) an intricate work of stripped down modern folk. In the fall of 2008 Catie Curtis released the critically acclaimed Sweet Life (her ninth recording). Throughout the fall of 2008 and the beginning of 2009 Curtis toured Sweet Life, began a youth music endowment (“Aspire to Inspire”) and gave away guitars to underprivileged youth, and in January 2009 performed at the Human Rights Campaign’s official Obama inaugural ball. The Washington Post, The Advocate, TimeOut Chicago, and Curve Magazine all lined up to praise Sweet Life and Blurt went so far as to hail 2008 “The Year of Catie Curtis”.

Elana Arian is one of the leading voices in contemporary Jewish music. A composer, multi-instrumentalist, and recording artist, Elana inspires communities across the country with her soulful songwriting and spirit. She recently released her third album of original music – A Spark of Light – a collaboration with Grammy-winning producer, Ben Wisch. Elana has served on the faculty of both Shirei Chagiga in London and the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in New York, working as a teaching artist in the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music. In addition to her work as a guest Artist in Residence for communities across the United States, Elana spent 12 years in residence in the Friday worship ensemble at Central Synagogue. She has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Tanglewood, and perhaps most memorably, five separate appearances at the (Obama) White House.

Raised on equal parts Mozart, Mingus, and Mitchell, Elana studied conducting and violin, jazz guitar, and songwriting at Yale. Elana has appeared on NPR’s Soundcheck, as well as on PBS’ Finding Your Roots. A sought-after studio musician, Elana also maintains a busy recording schedule (see below), working with such varied artists as Peter Yarrow, the Dirty Projectors, and Catie Curtis. She also held the guitar chair in the smash revival of Sweet Charity starring Tony award-winner, Sutton Foster.

When not performing, recording, or writing, Elana spends her time chasing her daughter, Maya, around Brooklyn with her wife, Julia.

Rose Polenzani

  • Folk
  • Singer/Songwriter

Rose Polenzani was born in the midwest to a musical family, learning harmony at her parents’ knee, hiding out under the family piano; she was always surrounded by music.

She began writing songs in college, and left school to start her life as a singer-songwriter. She was discovered by Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls, signed to Ray’s Daemon Records for two releases, and spent a decade touring the US, supporting such acts as the Indigo Girls, Over the Rhine, Joan Baez, David Gray, and Freedy Johnston. Though she started as a solo act, collaboration has become the driving force behind her songwriting, as evidenced by her recent work in Wintery Songs in Eleventy Part Harmony, the Sub Rosa collective, and her lush, live-in-studio recordings “The Rabbit” (2011) and “When the River Meets the Sea” (2006).
