Presented by Mission Creek Festival & The Dr. T.J. Eckleburg Review
Putting writers and musicians in the same room, this evening of music and literature features a cast of captivating, humorous, and exceptional talent. Event headliner, Steve Almond, is an intriguing Boston-area writer whose knack for funny but brutally honest prose has placed him among the best contemporary American authors. Junot Diaz calls him, “one of our finest literary provocateurs.” He is joined by acclaimed poet and actress Amber Tamblyn, poet and publisher Derrick Brown, Northampton-based indie-folk band The Sun Parade as well as fiction writer Rae Bryant whose experimental collection The Indefinite State of Imaginary Morals (2011) was nominated for the Pen Hemingway award.
This program is an official off-site event of the Boston-hosted Associated Writers & Writing Programs Annual Conference (AWP) and is presented by The Doctor T.J. Eckleburg Review and Mission Creek Festival. Taking its name from The Great Gatsby, The Doctor T.J. Eckleburg Review is a progressive print and online literary journal housed within the Creative Writing MA Program at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Mission Creek Festival is an annual celebration that takes over the venues and art spaces of Iowa City, Iowa with a focus on music, literature, and food. Mission Creek 2013 (April 2 - 7) features artists as diverse as Grizzly Bear, William Basinski, Amber Tamblyn, Deerhoof, and Killer Mike. Eckleburg and Mission Creek have joined forces to bring a night of programming that cross-pollinates writers, musicians, and artists from a variety of cultural circles.
